This practice helps you reconnect with your child through curiosity, presence, and a “beginner’s mind.”

1. Choose a Moment

Several times this week, choose a quiet moment to observe your child for about five minutes.

Do this gently and unobtrusively, without interrupting or directing them.

2. Imagine Seeing Them for the First Time

Pretend you have never seen this child before.

Imagine they are a precious being newly arrived on Earth.

Let go of labels, habits, and expectations.

3. Observe with Curiosity

Notice with fresh eyes:

  • Their facial expressions
  • The shape of their smile or dimples
  • Their gestures and movements
  • The way they walk, play, or rest
  • The sounds they make

Simply observe, without judging or analyzing.

4. Stay Open and Present

Let yourself feel wonder and appreciation.

Notice anything new, surprising, or beautiful.

5. Close Gently

When the time is up, take a quiet breath.

Carry this sense of curiosity and tenderness with you into your day.

You can return to this practice whenever routine makes you forget how unique and precious your child is.
